Wavelet-Based RAW Compression | Postponed Image Processing | Additional Processing for Low Contrast Screens

Camera cell phone has very small matrix and lenses; this causes distortion of the data on the initial step. And the cruder the distortion, the more serious processing is required for achieving good quality images.

To receive an image with maximum possible quality, KWEII suggests transferring data processing from phone’s CPU to either home computer or server. As a result the time period between shootings can be decreased and an image might be sent via radio channel in compressed RAW format right after shooting. No waiting time is required. If user chooses to send an image through radio channel, two options are possible:

  • A provider does RAW decompression and color processing with its powerful computer, converts the image into JPEG or BMP and sends the file via Internet on an address, specified by the user;
  • A user receives the compressed file and does the decompression and color processing on his home (or office) PC with software, that was provided by phone maker and came with the phone. The output image might be converted into any of standard formats (JPEG, BMP, etc)

A small size of RAW compressed file solves the traffic and storage problems; the usage of airtime for data transferring is reduced Application of KWE color processing to compressed RAW files provides significant image improvement.
